While there are many wonderful options to choose from, dance classes are always a popular choice–and for good reason! Not only do dance classes keep kids active and occupied, they provide a variety of lasting benefits such as gaining self confidence, creating healthy habits. Dance classes provide the perfect environment for kids to socialize with one another and practice their interpersonal skills within the Covid 19 restrictions.
Stories bring us together. Ms. T - the librarian will be sharing her favorite read-aloud books in a warm, and joyful environment of Fairgreen Library. Crafts related to children's books will be offered as well. Picture books with their beautiful illustrations and lovable characters make the perfect inspiration for your kids' artistic expression.
This ASA is aimed for female students in grades 3-5 and will focus on enhancing social skills emphasizing self-esteem and self confidence. We will focus on a variety of themes such as friendship, communication, choices and body changes. Having a safe environment to learn, role play and implement positive strategies and skills will help the girls to develop a positive self-esteem in order to navigate through the social interactions of their lives today. Please come with an open-mind prepared to have fun, meet new friends and grow.
Students will be given a specific material each week to create something of their choice around a theme. For example modeling using salt dough, recycled materials, building blocks a random mix of items etc. Some projects are for taking home while school supplies such as building blocks will stay at school (we will take photos though!).
Children will start by making their own playdough and then we look at different ways of manipulating the playdough and how they can create different things with it. It is a great way for children to continue developing their fine motor control and also a great way for them to unwind after a busy school day.
This is student led support session for grade 6 and 7 students who would like academic support and confidence boosting. Across the globe, students are being held to higher and more rigorous standards for writing and most students would benefit from more explicit instruction to improve the clarity and complexity of their writing. During this ASA there will be a short lesson on tips and techniques to improve academic writing. We will start with improving sentence structure and move throughout the year to include writing summaries, outlines, paragraphs, and finally argumentative essays. After the mini-lesson, students will have time to improve their writing assignments from Art, I&S, Math, and Science and will receive peer and teacher feedback.
