HIGHLIGHTS CONGRATULATIONS TO ONE OF OUR GRADE 9 STUDENTS ON EARNING HER DEEP DIVING LICENSE
In her own words, Grade 9 student Sarah shares with us her amazing accomplishment: "In the spring of 2019 a company in Dubai launched a competition for the best video about ocean clean up and marine life awareness. Every person who was interested posted in their Instagram story why they should be the person to win a diving license and be part of a global ocean cleanup initiative. I submitted my video about my passion for the sea and marine life, as well as my life/career goal to work in marine biology. Fast forward to September 2019, I received the call that out of the thousands of people who submitted globally, the public voted 74% in my favour to be part of this initiative. There were five adults who were chosen by the company itself. I am the only person under 18 who got accepted to this initiative thanks to the public votes. I spent hours studying the theoretical aspect, three hours to do a written test, 6 hours diving and practicing the dive in a pool, then just before the lockdown, I went for my first dive. Covid came and disrupted the open waters deep dive exam. I came back to Dubai following our summer holiday and finally after over a year and a half, I passed my exam and received my license. I am passionate about the ocean, and all marine life, my goal is to work with initiatives to clean up the oceans, understand marine life and how we can help make their environment healthy and safe. The license will permit me to be part of an exciting journey and an upcoming documentary about oceans and how to better take care of our oceans and our planet to keep it clean for us and our future generations." Great job, Sarah! We are so proud of you! DHA VISITS STUDENTS TO PRESENT SAFETY LESSONS
Representatives from the Dubai Health Authority stopped by last week to meet with a few classrooms as they are piloting a Covid-19 education campaign that will be rolled out to students in Dubai. They presented on proper hand washing, how to cough safely, what to do upon entering home, how to boost your immunity, and how to properly wear and dispose of your face mask. We appreciate the efforts of @Dha_dubai to keep us all safe and healthy INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE CELEBRATIONS AROUND CAMPUS Last week, students in classrooms throughout the school took part in activities in support of the International Day of Peace, a United Nations annual initiative. Students wrote about what peace meant to them, created and hung world symbols of peace on our trees in the courtyard and made peace wreaths from handprints.
