A video message from our Director Mr Graeme Scott
PARENT UPDATES 25 APRIL 2021
A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR Dear Parents,
What a great day we had on Thursday. World Book Day and Earth Day combined to give us a fantastic day of entertainment and learning. There were some amazing costumes and outfits, and some really creative words. My own was 'Sleepy' and contrary to the opinions of some, it wasn't just an excuse to spend my day in pyjamas!
A few 'behind the scenes' things that have been going on. Our new Parent Hub have done a great job in organising the Ramadan clothing drive. The parents working on the Parent Hub activities wear pink lanyards when on campus so they are easily recognisable. Grateful thanks to them, and all who donated. Our final IB Diploma Programme and Career-related Programme authorization has now been returned to us with no further areas to be addressed. That means the final piece of the jigsaw is the virtual visit from the IB. Then, we will be fully authorised in all four IB programmes - a feat achieved by very few schools worldwide and the IB tell us that no school in the world has done it quicker. Many congratulations to our team here.
We now have around 90% of students re-enrolled for next year. However, the process is only complete once payment of the re-enrollment fee for each of your children has been received. Please do this as soon as possible as the deadline for payment is Sunday, 2 May. After this date, we will not be able to hold seats for current students and we will begin offering available seats to new families who are on our waiting list. We have very limited availability in many grade levels so it is incredibly important that you pay your re-enrollment fee on time in order to secure your child's space at Fairgreen for next school year. Please see below fee details and how to pay your re-enrollment fee online using our Schools Buddy system. We appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.
Have a great week!
Kind regards Graeme

SEEKING RECYCLABLE DONATIONS As the hotter months are approaching, our Wellbeing Champions have been busy thinking of alternative things to do for break times. They are planning to launch a lunchtime games afternoon on Sundays and Mondays in the library. This will be initially for Grade 7 with the hope of extending it to other grades once it has been piloted. We are asking our Fairgreen community to donate any board games, or, alternatively, we would appreciate any suggestions you may have for games. If you do have any suggestions or resources could you please email them to Cathie Slade at c.slade@fairgreen.ae
As well, our Student Council is launching a new Recycable Resources Room for teachers where they will organize and store recycled items that can be used for student projects and activities. To help them out, we are seeking donations of Kibson's boxes and shoe boxes.
HIGHLIGHTS Celebrating Earth Day
We love an excuse to celebrate our planet and encourage sustainability at Fairgreen, so on Earth Day last week there was lots of activities taking place! Students planted date tree seeds with Mr Gerber up in the Urban Farming room! Across different grade levels, students collaborated on writing a novel with an Earth Day theme. Teachers recognized Earth Day in their classrooms with art projects and activities, such as making sun dials, setting new plants to grow using cut-offs from classroom plants, and assessing classroom waste by collecting left-overs from snack and lunch times to discuss how they can do better. And, our Parent Hub ran a clothing drive to encourage families to donate clothing and participate in the sustainable fashion movement. Encouraging Reading during World Book Week
Everyone enjoyed the extra emphasis on reading last week as teachers planned many activities desiged to encourage students to read more during World Book Week. Students, teachers and parents contributed book readings to our 'Story Tree' where young students scanned QR codes to listen to these readings. Throughout the week students had to D.E.A.R (drop everything and read) at random times throughout the day. Everyone dressed like a word at the end of the week by wearing a costume that creatively expressed their choice. Plus, our librarian arranged for an online book fair that parents could shop with a 15% discount from Bookworm. Learning from our Peers
Grade 3 evaluated Grade 5s dioramas, scanning the QR code's to learn about each climate and habitat the students presented. They enjoyed this experience very much and got some great ideas for the Rainforest dioramas they soon will be creating. Grade 1 Learn about the Properties of Sustainable Products
Grade 1 inquired into materials and their properties, how materials are made and how sustainable choices can make a difference for the environment. Students helped Miss Marcie and Miss Donna make some good choices! They looked at all of the things they use to bring snack, lunch and water into school. Then they helped sort these items into sustainable and non-sustainable choices before explaining their reasoning.
